‘Country needs at least 1,500 universities’

“Presently, our GER is only 12.5 percent, which means 87.5 percent of our youths do not have access to higher education. The world average GER is 24 per cent whereas in advanced countries it is nearly 56 percent. Our target should be to take the GER to 25 per cent in the next 10 years. The 12{+t}{+h} Five-Year Plan may well accept this target for which we will also need to take up our total strength of universities to at least 1,500 from present 504 universities and this would require massive investment,” said Jadhav.
